RebekahsZ
There is an R200 VLSD on ebay with greased bearings visible on the photo. With a pumpkin full of oil, should I be greasing these bearings when I rebuild my diffs? If so, what grease? If not, should the new owner clean that grease off before filling it with oil? Zmanco
Interesting question. When I assembled mine I put a very light coat of assembly grease on the bearing race to keep it in place during final assembly. I figured a small amount of grease in more than a quart of oil wasn't an issue. Sounds like this person got carried away...
beermanpete
The factory service manual suggests to use gear oil on the bearings and pack grease into the cavity between the lips of the grease seals.
