Guest LIghtningZ
Thats an O.k. start but if you can find an early set of 289 heads with out the emissions hump(64-66') you can get instant 10.5:1 compression just make sure you get the hardened exaust seats put in, if you still want to use the windsor heads you'll need to get the stud bushings because the 351W use's 1/2" studs where the 260'289'302 heads used 5/8" studs, hope this helps. Guest jens
Thanks according to this page http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Factory/8158/351Wtech.html 69-76 heads has 60 cc chambers but only 69 heads has the good flowing intake ports but the exhaust is just as bad as the others. 289 heads needs a lot of porting and bigger valves but are 54 cc. 400 hp budget 302 buildup http://www.jason.fletcher.net/tech/sherman/sherman.htm . gt40p heads from a explorer should flow just as good as the big valve ported 289 heads out of the box and ready for unleaded so this is the ones to search for. randy 77zt
i dont know if you can order from summit but they have the gt40p( explorer heads) new with valves and springs for $480 or so.if you have some old heads that need guides and seats changed you can get to this price very quickly in a machine shop.the gt40p heads are supposed to flow very well with minor bowl work.i spent $400 last year on getting a set of heads rebuilt for a 2.9l ranger v6.some 70s american parts were very bad as that is the year range that smog/emissions control was started. Guest Anonymous
There's no performance increase from using those heads. You'll drop compression and need special head bolts to install. Windsor Jr's or GT-40P heads would be a better deal in the long run.
