Guest Anonymous
Ok, it seems that there is no brand of headers anywhere for the 5.0 that will clear the stock steering shaft. I am also not that keen on cutting up my shaft, but what is involved? Also, has anyone ever fitted a header that works? Ever?
Mike kZ
I don't know about 5.0L headers and what will fit, but I added a u joint to my steering shaft. I have a small block Chevy with angle plug heads, so I bought angle plug shorty headers. These headers stick out from the block more than a regular shorty header, so it was hitting the steering shaft.I bought a heavy duty u joint from Grainger (750ft# sheer strength), measured where I wanted it and welded and roll pined it to the shaft. It also has a ball joint rod end to keep the steering shaft from flexing. I've driven my car for about 600 miles so far and have no problem. Scottie-GNZ
I installed one back in Dec '00 and no problem at all. If done correctly, as Mike explained, it should not be a worry.
