BLKMGK
Turbo.. The shaft should spin somewhat freely. It should move some in and out but not side to side. At least this is what I've been told to look for, I'm not a real whiz with turbos. I WOULD try to take a look at the turbo oil supply line. If it's clogged there could easily be bearing damage as that's a turbo's life blood! Can't help with the rest, sorry!
Drax240z
The impellor shouldn't freewheel however. Using your fingers on either side, you should be ble to spin it smoothly, but with some resistance. (just the way the bearings work when they don't have oil) Definately check the oil inlet and outlet for coking. (black oil sludge, can be crystalized) If its blocking the passages, its toast. As for the engine, about the only thing you can do is a compression or leakdown test without pulling it apart. Most wreckers do one of those when they get the engine in, so they know if they can sell it as working or not. (at least in canada, but it might be law here) I bought one that didn't pass inspection, and they marked NFG. I found no problems with it. Apparently if its uneven compression they can't sell it as good, because they by law here have to give a 30 day warrenty. ------------------ "Gimme Fuel, Gimme Fire, Gimme that which I desire" -Metallica Drax240z 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html http://members.home.net/drax77/newpage.html
