Guest 240Z_72
I've been told I have an old Crown turbo kit on my 240 which has also had an L28 transplant. The draw through turbo sucks on a holley 600cfm 2bbl. I am wondering if anyone out there has seen or used one of these and how good the performance was. It is beautifully simple and I have heard a few stories a some 11 and 12 second 1/4 mile Z's which used to run these. My dilemma is that the motor needs a rebuild soon, and I am very tempted to save my pennies and go with a crate 350 and JTR conversion kit. BUT...if these things can be as fast as mentioned, why bother??? Any comments or experience with this setup are most welcome. Sorry I don't have a better pic but you can see the carb (air cleaner, rather), part of the turbo, and intake manifold which goes to the E88's. -Kurt
Guest 240Z_72
A couple more details about this setup. By simple I mean it's strictly a oil cooled turbo, no intercooler, no wastegate, carbed with a manual choked 2bbl. The amount of boost is basically determined by how long you keep your foot in it. A timing retard ignition can be installed (which I need), which retards further as more boost is built.
Guest ShelbyZ
Hello 240Z 72, welcome to HybridZ. I have a friend with a 72 240Z also with a similiar setup to yours in Springfield. His uses a 4bbl carb with water injection. The car runs well considering it has 200K on it. He has changed the oil every 1,000 miles since buying it new in 72. I haven't ever ridden in his Z, but I'm told by others it runs pretty good. Maybe high 13's or low 14's in the quarter. He had wanted to race my Z when I get it back on the road. I had a similar setup myself that used a large Su carb instead of the Holley carb.
