Brake lights switch then and now....

If you've owned a Z long enough I think we all have run across our brake lights staying due to the rubber or plastic grommet wearing and then falling out. Is this intentionally designed to fail over the years? Is it necessary to be rubber for wear on the switch?

Today I walk out and realize my brake lights are on in my 2002 frontier. At first I thought I left my lights on. Drive home to realize my truck has the same rubber or plastic style grommet that the Z has. The only difference now my brake lights were on and my ABS light came on too.

Talk about a complete pain to put a bolt in that hole. I finally had to remove the front seat to be able to get enough room to work.

What was odd the clutch switch didn't have one.
