Guest Anonymous
My Datsun is a 1977 280Z 2+2. How big of a performance difference will that make as compared to a coupe. I know that the seat adds more weight, but if you're using a 350, I don't know if that would make much of a difference. Just thought I'd ask you guys. Kevin Shasteen
Hey Lance, Glad you found the board & to join in. The answer to your question is: the extra weight wont make that much difference in the long run. I too have a 2+2 & purchased it w/the intent of the SBC transplant. I purchased it because the 2+2 has a larger brake booster and the entire car is structured a little heavier than the coupe; Better Body Stiffness/Integritywise. I'm guessing the extra 6 or 8 inches will aid in a slightly smoother ride due to the longer wheelbase (probably not-but that was my thinking). When your talking about a 350hp/400hp engine; the extra 200/300 lbs is basically minimal & equal to driving w/a passenger in the car. If your transplant is done properly the difference will be almost unnoticeable. The difference is more of a cosmetic difference in that most people prefer the coupe over the 2+2. I've owned a 73 coupe many years ago (fun car), however, I actually like my 2+2 more. Kevin, (Yea,Still an Inliner)

I've had people tell me that it isn't worth restoring but, I also look at it is being much more rare than a regular coupe! I wouldn't give up my 2+2 for a coupe anyday! Good luck with your project! Guest Anonymous
I test drove a 2+2 that was for sale before I bought my 74 coupe. It already had a 350 conversion with auto tranny (r700). I was very impressed with the car. It was a nicely done (scarab) conversion. The car was easily a 13 sec qtr mile ride, maybe even high 12's. It was just more money than I wanted to spend at the time. I opted to get a coupe and do the conversion myself. (slowly but surely ) IMO, if your into the 2+2's, you can still have great performance. To each his (or hers ) own tommy
Guest Anonymous
Lance, The 2+2 already has all the largest brake booster and springs, plus as the kids grow, the traction just gets better. Where this car shines is on the highway. Go for long legs and smooth power delivery from the basement up. 2+2's are hard to beat for highway manners. My 1978 2+2 auto is not quick, but I do enjoy driving it long distance. Just remember that rerouting of your firewall AC outlets is difficult and if you want to retain the stock AC setup, you may want to consider using Scarab or MSA mounts.
