Replacing rod bearings

Recommended Posts

My L28 motor is getting very tired it has made over 125 1/4 mile passes. It is getting a rod tap upon start up. At first it was only with cold start-up's and now it even with warm start-up's. My question is... before it gets any worse, would it be a good idea to replace all of the rod bearings, or just plain on getting a "new" junkyard motor? By replacing the rod bearings I mean, droping the oil pan and sliping the new bearings in the motor without doing any machine work.

Thanks

Jason

Hey Jason ,just drop the pan and replace the rod bearings, it is easy and quick.

Use Nissan Bearings only!!

They cost more, BUT they have a deeper bend on the bearing insert and will be less prone to spin than cheap aftermarket bearings.

No need to machine a 280 crank unless the rod bearing has spun.
