quick question i purchased a lightweight, 15 pound GM performance flywheel to mount on my 283 it is set up to take the two piece rear seal. Is it possible to use this flywheel in conjunction with a t56? just wondering? im pretty confident that a .62 overdrive from a t5 will be sufficient but that .50 overdrive would just be really cool, especially with my 4.11 thanks Dan

Nope, unfortunately, the only flywheel I'm aware of that will work with a two piece rear main and a T56 (pre - 1987 I think it is) is the Centerforce unit. it runs about 260.00 +/-. Someone else may be developing one, I donno, but as far as I know, the Centerforce is the only game in town unfortunately for 2pc main seals.

283z - I think that is the same flywheel (14.8-LB nodular iron) that I use on my car - Super light and almost blow-up proof. I have a 1965 327 which uses the two piece seal and bolted up to a T-5 through a Hayes Competition clutch.

I don't think the flywheel is the issue unless the clutch bolt pattern is different with the T-56 type clutch.

I may be wrong, but I believe the pattern is different. I have to say, the T56 has the weirdest clutch I've seen for a OEM unit.

The centerforce is a SFI unit and from my own built in scale weighted WAY more than the nodular unit your refering to. If I had to guess, I'd say it was closer to 30 lbs. Is'nt that about right Blkmgk? I remember it being pretty damn hefty. I believe its all cut from steel billet. But hey, compare them *shrug* nothing to lose there, let us know the findings I'd be interested to know for sure.
