Guest 240hybrid
What do you guys think of ceramic coating the rods and pistons used in a 280zxt build up? Is it cost effective or not?
Guest Tom Scala
A friend of mine had the piston tops coated with a ceramic product in his 428 (actually 440") Pontiac drag race motor. It is a pretty heavy combination running high 9's in a 3400 lb. race weight 65 GTO. He doesn't run nitrous or a blower but CR is 13 to 1. After the season he tore the engine down and there was no trace of the coating on any of the pistons. The engine was never driven on the street and made about 100 passes during the year. There was no damage done by using it but he won't bother doing it again when he puts it back together for next season. He did use a moly coating of some sort for lubrication on the piston skirts and felt that was worthwhile. Thats the only first hand experience I know of with these products.
