Guest smoov280zx
Anybody ever use an n47 on a zx(f54,flattops), what did you do with the cylinder head temperature sensor? I keep being told to put it in the thermostat housing from the n47 donor, but it's never said if I have to drill a hole and weld in some kind of pipe with threads or what. Anybody ever tried to tap the n47 in the same location the p79 has the chts? If anybody knows for, any help would be great. Mitch 83 zx n/a with tons of emissions crap. DAW
I'd recommend using the N47 hardware/water temp sensor in place of the cyl head temp sensor (drilling out the N47 head for a sensor doesn't sound like a good idea). Bosch thermistors are fairly standard and there's not going to be a big difference to what the computer is looking for. Run a 180 degree thermostat; not a 195. tec280zx
Mitch, I have the same setup right now. What I did was use the thermostat housing from the n47 head and extened the cylinder head temp sensor to it. What I found on the n47 thermo housing was that one of the sensors has a "threaded sleeve" that comes off. I used some jb weld to bond the chts from the p79 to the sleeve and voila!...now your chts screws into the thermo housing. I've been running this setup for like 6 months now with the help of others here and no problems other than the nagging pinging. I wouldn't recomend raising the compression that high for a street car unless you can get gas that is better than 91. Otherwise it seems like you have to retard the timing so far that you defeat the purpose of higher compression.
DAW
There's no drilling, epoxying, etc., if you just use the N47 water temp sensor as-is. It has the same range of ohms/degrees temp as the cht sensor. DAW
tec280zx
Well yea, if you want to do it the easy way...lol:)
Guest smoov280zx
err, i just got the head, it's an n47, , and it has a sensor in the same place as the chts of the p79, Huh? If water temp sensor is in the housing, is this an n47 with a chts? WTF? This is a new one on me. Mitch
Guest smoov280zx
BTW, i run 93 all the time anyway, so hopefully no problem with 10:1.
tec280zx
smoov280zx: I think maybe you have an n47 head from a maxima. Just from what i've seen at the junk yard none of the z n47 heads had a sensor in the actual head and the maxima ones did.
