Guest Anonymous
I can't find any pre-made fuel surge tanks anywhere, only oil sump tanks........ How does one make a surge tank? Just a cyclindrical tank with perhaps a conical bottom with the pressure pump inlet at the bottom of the tank? Yes no maybe? I assume the return line from surge tank back to the fuel tank should be at the top of the surge tank so that any air pockets will return to the fuel tank? How should one arrange the low pressure inlet and the fuel rail return line in the surge tank to prevent any air in those 2 lines from entraining air in the fuel and possibly getting bubbles in the fuel rail? So do I just find a competent welder to make me a nice cyclindrical surge tank? I was thinking roughly the size of a coffee can... Would a smaller diameter and taller tank be better to prevent the fuel from sloshing around so much? Any suggestions? ------------------ Morgan http://z31.com/~morgan/s30 http://carfiche.com

I just called and checked with Kinsler (they're local for me), and they sell surge tanks in several different sizes, as well as everything else that you would need. They aren't particularly cheap, but they are not outrageous, either. At a minimum, I would recommend buying their catalog (~$10 as I recall) which has lots of information for setting high performance fuel systems, including how to properly setup a surge tank. BTW, I don't have any affiliation with Kinsler, other than being a happy customer ... http://www.kinsler.com (248) 362-1145
