DougieB
Does anyone know if the springs in the seat reclining mechanism are pre-loaded? (Please see pics) ...If I pull the cotter pin and tap the pin out, I don't want any surprises. Getting ready to powdercoat, and I want to get to the area that'll be un-coatable if I can't take it completely apart. Thanks!
z240
Almost guaranteed to have some preload. BE VERY CAREFUL. Not even sure how you'd put the preload back on to re-assemble it. To prove it, clamp the base in a vise, pull the release lever while holding the seat back bracket in your hand. If you feel IMMEDIATE pressure on your hand then the spring has preload. Put another way, with the back bracket in your hand and the lever released, move the bracket back and forth. Under spring pressure through the entire range of motion until you get the release re-seated? Then there is preload Edited July 15, 2016 by z240
