Guest Anonymous
Got the fuel lines hooked up and fired the engien for the first time. The preprogrammed values were close enough to fire, but I had to go full rich on the the knob to keep it running. but with a little correction, she settled into a nice idle and sure is responsive, at least here in the driveway. Temps never got over 175F and it fires off the first crank rotation when you hit the key. Now to finish off the exhaust so I can drive this thing this weekend! BLKMGK
SDS right? Hard to install? Tune? Details man!
DavyZ
I always do a double take when I see that motor! Nice job! Does the outside of the car equal the beauty inside the engine bay?? David
Drax240z
Damn, you guys and your SDS sucess stories! The more I read of them, the more excited I get that mine might fire the first time too!

Guest Anonymous
The SDS is a piece of cake to install and set up. The only tricky thing was the Hall sensor, but some aluminum and some creativity solved that. Every engine is different, but where there's a will there's a way. The magnet position is critical to timing. It ended up at 97 degrees vs. the recommended 80, but the car still fired and ran well enough to set it up. I still have to program in the "vacuum advance" but that should only take a couple of minutes. The RPM fuel values that were programmed in were close enough to start the car if I turned the mixture to full rich, but a 2 minutes of reprogrmming had that fixed as well. She idles at 750 with 18 inches of vacuum, very smooth with good throttle response. We'll see how it runs tomorrow on the road, but I have high hopes. Man, this beats swapping jets on a Holley! Drax240z
Well I just did my magnets and hall sensor mount tonight. As best as I can tell mine ended up at 0, 119.75, and 240.0. 0 looks like its exactly 80 degrees from the line of the hall sensor... where it should be. My block had some nice threaded holes in the side where the AC compressor used to mount, that worked very well for a hall sensor bracket. Simplicity at its best, just a 8" long piece of 1" flatbar bent at 90 degrees. I'd love to fire up tomorrow... Lets hope.
Scottie-GNZ
DRAX, nice going. That is what I recommend to anyone who does not have a/c. Slot the piece that bolts to the block for fore/aft adjustment and thread the 90* piece so the sensor has in/out adjustment.
Drax240z
Yup exactly what I did. I put everything together this morning and it seems to line up very well. I'm not sure yet if the hall sensor is close enough to the magnets to sense it, but its slotted, so... Trying to get power to the car right now. Something wacky with my alternator wiring. Guest scca
way to go Jack,,,, first one of the "group" to get the sds up and running.. gee he makes it sound so easy
Guest Anonymous
So far I have nothing but good things to say about the SDS. Firing it up was very easy. Fine tuning it will take a little more time, but even that's coming along pretty well. The engine has a 9.6:1 CR but pulls from 1000 rpm in 4th or 5th without protest or pinging. 1st gear is almost unusable at full throttle because of wheel spin. Second gear wheel spin is hard to control as well without backing way off the throttle. I still have to hook up the EGO and check fuel mileage. I guess if there were anything I would do differently, it would be to add the option to have the ECU control the fan and add the knock sensor. I may add those options later. It would be nice if SDS had an idle speed control option, but it idles well without it and that would add another level of complexity and cost. But the ability to adjust fuel and timing curves from the driver seat has been just great! Sure beat fiddling with jets! Scottie-GNZ
Bring it out to Speedworld Sat evening so those of us that will be there can check it out.
Guest Anonymous
Only if you promise not to boo at the piss poor paint! I'm not quite ready to make a full blown pass down the track yet either, but I'd be happy to take you for a short ride. I still have some debugging to do.... Drax240z
I must say, that is one beautiful looking engine. Love that intake.
Scottie-GNZ
You do not have to run it or take me for a ride. I just want to see the swap. BTW, my car was rescued from a junkyard and yours could not look any worse.
Guest scca
how hard was the motor to get here? does it happen to fit on the 200" mounts? i've got a 66 sitting waiting its turn for something injected.. currently a 289-3spd yes a 3speed standard!.... Guest Anonymous
Not hard to get. Contact John Douglas in Perth and ask him. The engines are cheap enough, maybe $150-350 for a complete running engine, add another 300-500 for various parts and gaskets, and 300 or so for shipping. The details are on my website http://home.cfl.rr.com.mustangsix but it does have the same mounts as a 200/250. Scotty, what time and location? Scottie-GNZ
Orlando Speedworld on SR50E in Bithlo just before the SR50 & SR520 fork. Saturday evening, 5p-11p.
Guest Anonymous
Yeah, I know where the track is. I was just wondering how to find you once I got there. Look for a ratty looking 66 Mustang coupe with mostly white paint and CP 200 wheels. I'll try to be there around 7:30 or so. BTW, in the pic above, do you see the air inlet hose? I'm looking to get something fabircated to replace that mess. any ideas? [ June 29, 2001: Message edited by: 66coupe ]
Scottie-GNZ
Hard to say where I will be at 7:30. Just park and follow the trail of cars waiting to run up to the finish line. I would say you are a candidate for a K&N-type filter forward of the radiator pulling in cold air.
