240Z Ash Tray Lid Spring

I need the lid spring for the ash tray out of a 2/71 production 240Z. It's the plastic ash tray that covers the fuse panel.

I'm following a suggestion to make my own. I just bought a long spring that looks about the right coil diameter and thickness and am going to cut a few coils off, straighten the ends, and put the 90 degree bends in.

 

I would delete the post but can't figure out how.
