Guest 305240
I've used 1 wire GM alts in many different cars and trucks. I've always ordered the kit from JcWhitney. When you order the 80 and 105 amy kit you get a new set of winding with it. I'va always run the heavy Batt wire to the Battery. Sometimes I run it to an amp gauge inside the car thne to the Batt. I fed off the + side of the amp gauge to feed the rest of the car. When I used a volt gauge or meter, the Batt wire went directly to the Batt. I've run this system for years with out burning anything up or having to replace anything. One thing you do have to do is "Excite" the regulator. It gives you instructions as how to do this with the kit. You only have to do this once. If memory serves me correctly, a 105 amp kit will run approx 30 bux. I'm currently running a 1 wire GM alt setup in my 77 Jag as well as my 240 with a 5.0 in it. In all honesty, I don't expect any problems. I've been using this particular setup in my vehicles for the last 17 years. One other note: It is imparative that you have a good ground system. Battery to engine ground, battery to body ground, and engine to body ground. If you don't have all 3, you will toast alts more often.
