Guest DATTO
hey all just went to the local auto store to buy some plugs and i asked for the usual NGK plugs and they told me NGK is now DENSO. the DENSO plugs are great, runs really good in my car, considering the whole time my number one spark plug was cracked. my car runs real fresh with the plugs. its like i got the 220hp back on my SU car. its too bad my clutch is bad and slips when i floor the car... oh yeah these new denso plugs were $1.49 each compared to the $2.99 price of the olg NGK ones. seems like a good deal and i like the performance. oh yeah and the denso plugs had a special U-groove on the tip....pretty cool...take it easy all
DavyZ
Datto, were these plug the new "iridium" plugs that I've seen advertised. The price is sure right IMO. Davy
Guest DATTO
oh no davyz these are the regular plugs, just like the ngk-r types...but the cool thing is that the denso plugs have a U-groove on the tip of the plug...so far the performance on my car sky rocketed. considering i just found out my number one spark plug was cracked that was making my car bogg all day long. but i felt the car ran much better with the denso plugs than the ngk's...maybe its just me but at least they were cheaper than the ngk's and work just fine. http://www.iridiumpower.com/identifyplugs.htm theres the website for information on the plugs...i have the W20EXR-U plugs take it easy [ July 27, 2001: Message edited by: DATTO ]
Guest Tom Scala
NGK is still NGK. The Denso plugs are a Japanese replacement type made by Nippondenso. I have them in my turbo motor,no complaints. They are also repackaged and sold under the Accel U-Groove brand name. Good plugs.
DavyZ
There was some discussion on ZDriver or Zcar.com on the Iridium plugs. They are intriguing enough and I may opt for a set of those for the V8. Davy
D83ZXT
I'm currently running a set of NGK's Iridium's. I like them, but the only place I found them was through: http://www.monarchproductsinc.com/ngk.htm They were $6.50 a piece. Donna
DavyZ
$6.50???? Ouch! You can buy Splitfire platinum plugs for less! Sheesh. How do you like them? Do you notice any real performance or mileage difference with them? I just think that $52 + tax for a set of eight is waaaaay to pricey, even for my champaign taste on a beer budget. D83ZXT
To be honest with you... I upgraded my wires along with doing the spark plugs. (Also raised the boost) I do have a friend that used the NGK-R then swapped to Denso's Iriduims and the dyno showed an improvement. Denso's Iriduims run @ 13.00 a piece. I thought I would give them a try at half the cost I've seen how Splitfire's V breakes off. NGK's are the only one that works well with the Z that I have found. DavyZ
I had no idea there were problems with the Split-fire plugs breaking apart. Well, I'm not running any kind of boost and I would think that then it would be ok, but I may give the Iridiums a go in the future--for now the V8 will stick with the relatively new AC plugs... Guest Tht1KSguy
i'd avoid any Splitfire plugs.. i used to work for a Honda motorcycle dealer in Phoenix and we'd have bikes come in that were running like crap.. the tech would see they were running splitfires... change them back to NGK's and the customer never had any more problems... that's good enough for me
BLKMGK
Ditto th eSplitfire issues on Mustangs. Stock cars aren't as bad but blown cars come in with missing problems. Swapping out to a set of Champions has fixed at least three cars that I'm personally aware of. I actually stodd there one day while my friend did this on a customer's car hot. The customer took it right back out and returned with a smile on his face! I ran them in my car with turbos and had no issues but it seems that some people DO have problems with them... Guest Anonymous
When my '75 280Z (not to be confused with my future '79 V8ZX) ran, I replaced the Bosch Platinums (because they were about 4 years old, though I only had the car for about 2-3 months now...previous owner did not take very good care of it) used AC Delco Rapidfire plugs and the car ran a WHOLE lot better, and it idled much better also. Plus, they're pretty cheap too.
DavyZ
That's what I bought for my V8--hoping to get it running soon too Price was right! Davy
