Guest Les Derfler
I am new to the list and am wondering about putting a 5 speed behind my 86 Buick 3800. My G.M. partsman didn't offer me much hope in finding a flywheel/cluth. An auto. in my "Z" doesn' thrill me a whole bunch. What are you guys doing to get some driving excitement back in your ride? I'm sure that it's possible without going to a high dollar custom built setup. Any help on this would be much apreciated.
Guest pauli
there's a discussion of this over in high tech (it's the huge thread, you can't miss it ). my theory is that you could just use the flywheel, clutch, bellhousing, and transmission out of any v6 f-body (er, 3800 v6. i doubt you'd want the 2.8 stuff anyway ). but, i don't know if that stuff will hold up against a turbo. Guest Anonymous
Scotty-GnZ will be the one who can probably tell you for sure, but is the engine (crank/bellhousing) much different than the 3.8l II they use in the mid 90's Fbody GM cars (Camaro/Firebird)? Scottie-GNZ
The 3800 is different from the 3.8L, but since you stated it is an 86, I am pretty sure it is the 3.8L. Take a look on page 4 of the long thread in High Tech and I have a post that details the components needed to put a manual on a 3.8L. I will do check on when the 3800 was first available. ------------------ Scottie 71 240GN-Z Scottie's GNZ
Guest pauli
ah, i see... i didn't think there were major differences between the old 3.8 and the newer 3800...
