Guest Anonymous
I'm new to the Z-car deal, but have been around GN's for quite some time. I sold my 87 about a year ago, and kept one of the spare motors I built in hopes of finding another GN/T-type cheap to put it in I've got the motor, extra garret turbo, 200 trans (and a few TH350's) but no wiring harness. Do have an ECU left. What is involved in the swap? I'm eyeballing this little 280z down the street from me... What type of motor mounts are needed? Fab job? After the general motor stuff, what type of frame work and front suspension needs to be done? Will it be harder to do the swap if the Z car was a manaual to begin with? BLKMGK
Scottie is our GNZ expert bu tI can help a little until he has time to post... Converting a stick car to an auto is no biggie, it's not harder. Front suspension won't "require" any work but I'd be looking very hard at bigger brakes - you WILL need them You'll also probably want to consider using a 700R4 too since overdrive will be something desireable if you drive the car much other than at the track. Hrm, the rest I think you'll have to get from Scottie. I think you'll find this swap to be a good one and VERY fast. Scottie will likely be in the 10s here pretty soon
Guest Anonymous
Cool, perhaps he can enlighten me Yes... Fast it shall be! 2600lbs and a motor than ran 12.5 all day long in a 3800lb GN... Yes... should be interesting! I'm not planning to drag it much, just as a daily commuter and weekend blaster. Got other cars that will see strip use (Pro-street 'Cuda project) hehehe.. Scottie-GNZ
I'm back. MadMaxx, check below for the post "Lingering Questions" and it should answer most of your questions. Once you get the swap done, you will take the car to the strip to "test" it and I dare you to not keep going back.
