Guest sball
I don't know about the exhaust fowling the steering, but Zoom magazine did a whole conversion over a period of a few issues, with the Toyota 1jzgte (lexus 2.5 twinturbo) But if you can get the rb25det with 5 speed front cut why not. You need to find an engineer to point you in the right direction, the best thing to do rather than look through the phone book is ask around and get put onto someone who can be trusted to look after you and not their wallets. The Victorian rules have been recently upgraded, and I have no idea about W.A, here I need an MSAE engineer to certify the work done, apart from checking the car over, they will do a brake test which involves accelerating to 80km/hr and braking hard to a stop 13 times cosecutively then 0-100 and braking hard to a stop 3 times. It may not sound that hard but, this test will destroy most new factory car's subframes. There is one idea you should mention to the engineer when you're discussing the conversion is making an engine mounting plate that bolts to the front of the block and bolts to the chassis rails in the engine bay this effectively shares the load of the motor rocking back and forth on the small Z subframe, the chassis rails will most likely have to be reinforced below the firewall, the next thing with the additional torque being put though the body is strengthening of the rear chassis rails and linking them to the front chassis rails with a small additional chassis section, as well as strut braces for the front and rear. It may not be what you wanted to hear, but so many people get caught out not being aware of the penalties of being found to have upgarded more than 20% power without an engineers certificate. Or even worse having an accident without the right papers. It's a bit like a gun license, If you don't have one and you accidently shoot someone, you're off to Jail. Hey Zpeed, I'm interested in swapping a RB20 into my 260Z. Do you have any contact details of these guys doing the fixed rate conversions. I can't use their service cause I'm on the other side of the country, but I was wondering if I they would sell their engine mounts and/or transmission mounts. If you could purchase these mounts it would be helpful.

Guest 26ounce
Hey Simon, I'm a fair way off doing the swap myself. I just picked up my 260Z two weeks ago and have a fair amount of work to do before getting into engine mods. The suspension is clapped out and the interior is very tired, I might even upgrade the brakes too. I want to get everything else sorted out before starting a swap. I will take your advice on the mounts and just fabricate them. I was just thinking that there would be someone out there trying to make a buck selling these sort of things, seems a lot of Z owners out there are considering RB motors. By the way, have you sourced your motor yet? I'd be interested to hear where you are getting it from. Lastly, thanks everyone for the information posted on this board, inspirational stuff!
