Guest Thurem
I have the L31 vortec heads that are gonna go on a 69 fourbolt 350. The heads are machined for screw in rocker studs, and I also have some guideplates I can use. The heads are supposed to have selfaligning rockers (ie a rocker that has a groove over the tip of the valve to keep it aligned), but can I use regular style rollerrockers with the guideplates (less $'s), or am I constrained with space due to the centerbolt valvecovers. Anybody know of a good solution for this combination? Also how good/bad are the cheaper noname roller rockerarms, are they usually reliable to a certain amount of lift or RPM, if so what are the limits, do they have other drawbacks. With these heads I dont expect to go much over 0.500" lift and 6500 rpm. Thanks Thure
Guest Anonymous
proform roller rockers are fine quality. I know some various people who regret stepping up to the crane because the body of the proform is smaller than the crane energizer. BUT, used to ....you could only get a 1.5 rocker from proform and had to pay $300 from crane to get a 1.6. depends on what you need.

Thure got lots of opinions , and they're all worth what you paid for them Seriously though, I'd call up Sallee Chevrolet (web search, will come up easy) and ask what combo they reccomend. They do TONS of modified GM motors and might even have all those parts for fair price. I'd call up any other shop getting a reputation for using those heads as well. FWIW, Sallee info was always bang on in my experience and I know of other satisfied customers from $ to $$$$ spent their. Proform seems to sell a huge variety of parts (reboxed I assume) of which I've had no issues with to date (distributor, heat and sound insulation etc that I've tried).
