Guest Anonymous
ok, i've came up with a question that i can't find the answer to. does a 78 280Z or a 79 280ZX use the same sensors and plug for the ECM as a Turbo ZX motor? i know the ECM is differant on the turbo, and i would assume that the MAF sensors are differnt, but what about the rest? and does the turbo ECM need to have an O2 sensor? if it doesn't i'm tempted to find a turbo exhaust housing off of a newer turbo car that uses a T-03 that has fittings for an O2 sensor so i can run an exhaust temp sensor. i don't weld and i don't know anyone that does so it might be cheaper just to find a new exhaust housing. and it would be really cool if i can find one that has a factory 2 1/2" down pipe(like an '87 2.2L or 2.5L Chrysler Turbo motor?). i'm wondering if i can drop a 280 ZX Turbo motor in my 78 or my buddies 79 without having to re-wire everything. so am i just off the wall wacko or am i still sane? Guest Anonymous
You can't just remove the oxygen sensor. On a stock turbo engine there is no need for a exhaust temp sensor or any of that jazz. The harness is entirely self-contained, making engine swaps easy. Just transplant the engine, wiring harness, and computer and wire up the few connections there are(power, ground, ignition switch, etc) and you're good to go. The turbine housing is a nissan housing, other non 280zx turbo stuff won't fit on it. And most of the sensors are different from a non turbo. ------------------ Morgan http://z31.com/~morgan/s30 http://carfiche.com [This message has been edited by Morgan (edited December 22, 2000).]
Guest Anonymous
ok, maybe i didn't word my question right. i am wanting and will add an exhaust gas temp gauge so i can monitor the temp of the exhaust. this way, if the temp starts to approach 1650-1700 degrees or so i know that i am starting to run lean. this way i will be able to help protect the motor from running lean. thats why i want an exhaust temp sensor/gauge. the other question i had is this. does a 78Z or 79ZX use the same wire harness and ECM plug as a turbo ZX? if they do share the same wire harness then i don't have to worry about yanking all of the wires from the donor Turbo ZX car. this would save me lots of time in the scrap yard. cool, i didn't know that. will any other T-03 turbine mount up to the exhaust manifold? >And most of the sensors are different from a non turbo. thats kinda what i was thinking, but i wasn't sure. thanx! Guest Anonymous
Hi, Iknow for a fact that the wire harness and plugs are totally different.I did this swap in my 76 280 about 2 years ago. The current setup is an 83 manual trans.- E.C.M.,t3/t4 turbo,Bell Engineering F.M.U., two stock turbo fuel pumps, starion ic, HKS BOV,Greedy TypeA boost controller, stock turbo injectors,HKS metal head gasket, and lots of tweaking and tuning. With this setup the car has dynoed 264R.W.H.P.and 347Ft.Lbs. of torque at 1.1 bar(15 P.S.I.) This has been very reliable and until recently was my daily driver w/AC. Have Fun! Russell
Guest Anonymous
thanx Russel!! thats the info i was looking for. you say you are running 2 stock turbo fuel pumps? i assume so you get good flow and plenty of fuel, but are you running them in series, are parrallel and just using one as a back up? do you know how much HP the factory turbo pump can support? thanx
