Guest Tim78zt
Hey Chase, Since your email address would definitely set off all the alarms my firewall admn has set up, I have no choice but to respond through the forum and risk stepping on some toes, but IMO Sparco (really Spearco?)is a great IC, surpassed only by Bell Engineering Group(Corky Bell)both in value and efficiency. Why pay more and get (a little) less? The reason Bell's is more efficient is bar/plate design and thinner construction (2.75 vs 3.50"), pure and simple. Corky's product incorporates more, but shorter, rows in a similiarly dimensioned package. Count them. Spearco has fewer, but longer tubes. I came very close to buying a Spearco myself, but Corky got on the phone with me personally and talked about my application with me, and sold me with great tech support. Plus I got a custom IC perfectly suited to my car, not a compromised generic package that will work but was not designed for the Z. Also, did you know how thick a Spearco is? 3+ inches is a little much for street machines. They are even advertised as a "race" application. Hope you got a BIG cooling fan if you are mainly going to be doing street driving!! Plus that extra thickness doesn't make it more efficient according to the book Maximum Boost. Why not pick up a copy of it before you buy an IC? What you will find is that all IC's are compromises, name-brand or generic. Finding the one that's right for YOU is all the fun (next to installing and tuning) Enjoy!! Tim
BLKMGK
Tim, have you go tpics of your intercooler setup? I'm not running a Turbo but down the road may entertain an ATI blower - sicko' that I am. I'm interested in intercooler options as a result. The NPR (?) intercooler is the one I've been looking at hardest (think Isuzu trucks)... Guest Tim78zt
B- My IC is not in the car right now. My car was totalled after being rear-ended last September, and I am rebuilding a "new" 78 Z. So the IC is not in the car yet. But if you take a look in front of your radiator and imagine losing the original blue airbox, you will then see a huge gaping hole where just about ANY intercooler will "fit"!!! Since I don't have an AFM (using Accel DFI) I am using all of the area between the radiator and the wheel well and above the bumper support for access to and from the turbo and IC. A K&N air filter is clamped directly to the compressor. That's my setup!!
