Nigel
I have to decide which of the two radiators I have to recore for my 240Z Turbo. I have my original 240 rad, and a 280ZXT rad. The ZXT rad is much bigger than the 240 rad, but it won't see any more air flow. So, is the extra capacity ZXT rad going to be worth the extra effort to install? BTW, I'd have the 240 rad recored with 3 cores if I use it. Nigel [ May 08, 2001: Message edited by: Nigel ]
Modern Motorsports Ltd
Why recore at all Nigel? For ~$180US you can step to a far superior 2 row aluminum Griffin as many of us V8's and others are using. When my temp finally starts to climb I know it's time to check my rad fluid as it's literally half empty by then (I have a slow leak to attend to ) so I know the rad works OK Search the archives and you'll find lots of info. BLKMGK
Just FYI - Summit and Jegs are currently backordered on those radiators. MikeSCCA turned me onto these guys -> www.performancebodies.com but by that time I'd already ordered an AFCO from http://www.randys-racemart.com which was slightly cheaper than any of the others I've seen. Mike said he likes he look of the units his link has, I'l let everyone know how the AFCO unit works out. If the AFCO is out of stock I'll be using Mike's link ASAP as the square tanks look nice to me. Heh, yeah I'm to the point of needing a radiator! Guest Drewz
I have a decent 350 in my Z and all I did was to recore and add another row to my original one with an electric fan from an 89 supercharged bonneville. Works well when it was hot out last summer. 0.02 cents
Nigel
Yeah, I'd like to go with an aluminum rad, but by the time I import it into Canada, it will cost me substantialy more than $200. Just to give you an idea, an Autometer Boost gauge that sell for $50 US goes for $125 CAD. I'll call around to a few speed shops today just to find out for sure, but I think the recore will be the most economical route. By the way, which size of Griffin rad fits best in the Z (240)? Thank's all! Nigel
BLKMGK
24X19 is what I've ordered - I'm getting the HOWE one since th eAFCO was indeed backordered a day or two and the HOWE was in stock. Distance between the framerails on my 240 is 25inches so the 24 works well. I could go taller I suppose but nothing was readily offered that was taller and the hole in the front of the car isn't that big anyway (shrug). I'll be using a Cobra 2speed radiator that I picked up cheap. This might be overkill but it'll look terrific andI should have NO worries about cooling. Nothing worse than having a marginal cooling system creep up on you while stuck in some unforseen traffic!
Drax240z
I'm going to be using an 82 Turbo rad, for what its worth. Minor grinding required on the bottom of the rad to get it into an early Z... It doesn't get too hot up here so I'm not too worried about overheating.

If it's $50US then x1.6 xchange to $80CD and $15CD tops for US post for a simple guage which saves brokerage, with an underwritten receipt your duties would be less than $10CD on top. I assume your $125 would have some 13% or so local taxes on top as well. Using US post and 'lesser' receipts whenever you possibly can (ie. slightly used is best ) will save you lots. As well you're in Ontario and their's going to be a ton of US Z's coming up for your convention/show which is a fine importing opportunity to take advantage of No way they'll be questioned on bringing goods for a swap meet or similar. I once got 60lbs (1 pr airflow research heads/1 single plane intake/2 cams/set of roller rockers and other stuff) from New York to Vancouver free in ~13days but that's a longer story Ross (it's a small world) C PS my 26x19 griffin with larger rows (1.25") and tranny cooler was $400CD total at my door. That was $270US total with upgrades and shipping/brokerage, which made it full wholesale cost....not bragging, just pointing out better deals can often be had with patience and effort [ May 09, 2001: Message edited by: Ross C ]
Nigel
DAMN! I made the foolish mistake of assuming that a recore had to cost less than importing a Griffin aluminum rad. I just got the bill for the recore - $340!!! Yikes! I also just got hammered with a $200 sandblasting bill. A co-worker has a sandblasting business on the side, so I figured I'd give him a try. Based on previous experience with other sandblasters, I expected the bill to be under $100 for what was done. I guess I won't be going back to him again. *$%#@^!!!
