I am looking building a dedicated SBC engine for either the Weiand 142cc (small) or 6/71 (big) supercharger. What are the engine requirements for a street blower engine (without overkill, as I am on a moderate budget)? I take it for granted that forged dished pistons are a must. I have a nice set of L98 alum cyl heads that have been ported, bench flowed, racing valve job, ect, but they have a small combustion chamber (58 cc I think). Will I be able to get 8.5:1 out of these heads in a .060 overbored 350? Will the stock valves live in a forced induction enviornment? Has anyone tried ceramic coating valves and combustion chambers to reduce hot spots? Is a pricey aftermarket forged crank and H-beam rods really necessary if RPM is kept at 6500 or less? I know I know lots of questions icon_wink.gif but I want to do this right. Anyone who has been down this path and can give me some advice?

Your heads are only 58cc heads?!? Wow, only the piston manufacturer will know for sure! I'm sure they make pistons that will work for your application & get the compression ration down to 8.5:1. If not, your boost will have to be somewhat limited I would think. Forged pistons are a must, and I suppose a forged crank is only necessary depending on the amount of boost you are running. Again, amount of boost will determine the kind of valves. 6500 rpm should be ok for a N/A crank (upper limit probably) but who knows with it blown? Perhaps one of the drag racers knows. As far as coating the pistons, one of the guys on this board, "takman57" owns a performace coatings shop in Dallas TX. Long, (dankinzle) is also part owner. Maybe one of them will chime in? The coatings you can do yourself if you wish as long as you have an airbrush or paintgun for detail work.

With a roots blower you need the strongest parts you can get. Yes you can thrown one together with cheap parts and cast parts but your asking for trouble. A roots blower gives boost as soon as you hit the gas so that means the whole time the engine is running there is a higher loads placed on the engine parts. The only way you gonna get your heads to work is if you use real thick (.060'' or better) head gaskets and dont deck the block. And use something like a 21 cc dished pistons. Only one prob with this is that with the piston .70-.80'' in the bore then thats not giving you a quench like you need, plus the smaller cc heads is made to give more low end torque where when you build a blown engine you need to build it for mid range and top end. If your engine has a C/r of 8.5:1 then after you add 7lbs of boost its like a 11.2-11.6:1 engine so you see you need the heads and exhaust set up to flow alot of air. I would look for atleast 64cc heads and as far as myself stock valves aint even good for mild hp engines like 300 hp cause they are to heavy plus 2 or 3 pc pressed

PARAGOD... LMAO. I liked that bud. If you need any more help or got any more ?'s i'll be more that glad to help you out. The two main things we deal with at the shop is 383 strokers and roots blower engines so i'm pretty sure i got all the info on building a blower engine that you could ever need bud
