Guest Anonymous
Well, after seven years, my 240 has a running engine in it again. But I think the oil seal on the turbine side of my new turbo is bad. I primed the oil system twice before starting the engine up, the first time about a day before I actually started the car. I noticed some oil on the floor under the turbo, and when I looked at the bottom of the turbine, I could see a drip forming (oil supply and return fittings are totally dry). I was so determined to get the car started that I ignored it. So, I ran the engine, let it warm up and then put the car back in the garage. Now, a week later, I've returned (I keep the car in my fathers garage, in another city), and some more oil has leaked out since running the engine. Now, I could swear I read somewhere that turbo oil seals will sometimes leak oil when new, untill they get some use. I know, probably wishfull thinking on my part Has anybody had any experience with a bad seal on a new turbo? I know turbos are fragile, but this is a little much. I can only guess that I must have done something wrong. I couldn't resist turning the turbing wheel by hand before I installed the turbo. The bearing had obviously been oiled during assembly, but maybe it didn't make it to the seal, and I wrecked it when I turned the shaft? That's the only thing I can think of. Feeling very discouraged... Nigel
Nigel
WooHoo!!! I got my Turbo back today. It turns out the builder screwed up and didn't machine something properly. I'm back on track... Nigel
