What to do with the leftovers...

Hey All,

Well, I will be taking my Z-car to the shop next week to have the 83ZXT motor installed. I chickened out, which makes me feel bad, but I just want to know that it's done right . icon_smile.gif

So now I whave to figure out what I'm going to do with the stock motor and 4sp trans. Keep it, sell it, trade it? I'm not sure what to do, so I thought I'd ask what others have done. It's in really good shape and runs very strong. All original with round top carbs.

If I keep it, what should I do to keep it preserved while I'm whizzing around with the L28 ZTurbo and 5 speed?

If I sell it, what would this be worth?

I'm interested to read any suggestion that you might have.

If you keep it, you can drain the fluids from it, and you can spray some stuff into the cylinders to keep the walls from rusting. I think Eastwood sells products for long term engine storage.

If you know this turbo is the way you want to go, sell the old engine to help offset the cost of the conversion. You can clean it up really well and if you're good, you can carefully detail it, which may bring you some additional $$$.

I know the feeling, BLKMGK. My puny little garage is getting filled with both ingredients and leftovers. I have some parts that the previous owner gave me... which I may or may not keep. I have the stock 240 seats which are worn out and will require a complete re-do if I want to use them. They will probably never see the inside of the car again... and yet I keep them. I also have a really big Volvo intercooler, a 3.90 R200 diff, a (non T-5) 5sp trans, and a complete 83 turbo parts car! All in a tiny townhouse garage.

And Davy, thanks for the tip on Eastwoods. If I store it, I'll check it out. I've also thought about offering the motor and trans to the Z-shop where I'm getting the work done to offset some of the labor costs. I'm just not sure what it's worth.
