Tranny for early Z

I'm not as good at this as others but i have a n/a 80 2+2 tranny in mine and it does really good.I like it cuz it launches like crazy and still cruises at about 2500 rpm at 55.The only problem i have right now is the stock clutch is still in it and when the turbo spools up in fourth and fifth it slips bad.But a center force clutch is coming soon to rid that problem. As far as i know the stock 5 sp can handle a hell of alot of power.I don't regret doing the swap in my 76 at all i should have done it along time ago.

dont bet on it!!!!

unless you dont make much power the d/f clutch is a total piece of trash. i went through two in two years and the stupid things NEVER did grab in third or fourth!! just be carefull before you plop down a ton of $$$$ on a centerforce check around, there are a few BETTER clutches for less - same money.

my clutch masters stage 4 (4 puck ceramic) was only $350. ACT 6 puck $360.

i paid 400 for my centerforces.

i like the CM stage 4 but wish i had gone with ACT.

FWIW

yeah. i know a few DSM guys that love the DF.

i also know alot of mustang guys that use them with great results. but i dont think it is a good clutch for big turbo's and I6 torque. 25psi and 26" tires is too much for it.

with the centerforce i would hit third and it would slip, fourth and it would slip. now when i hit third and fourth the ass end wants to come around icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

still think i need an ACT with an unsprung hub.

If its a weekend driver, then yeah a non-sprung hub would be great, otherwise for like daily street driving they can rattle your teeth out chattering like they do, and in the rain faa-get-a-bout-it... icon_smile.gif
