Guest Tom Scala
Looks really nice! Tim,If I remember correctly you have ac on your 78? If so how did you fit the pipes through the core support? Is that 2.5" in and 3" out?
jeromio
Wow. Almost a shame to paint over that pretty, shiny metal. Rust wouldn't be pretty though. As to Tom's question, kinda looks as though you're gonna have to just cut a really big hole in the rad support, no?
Guest Tim78zt
Thanks Scottie & Chase. It has been a long wait...I've had the IC for over a year!! And you all are correct: the car has AC and I had to cut out one BIG hole!! The picture just barely misses that angle, but I wanted you to see the bracing too. The only small interference will be with the top rad oulet port (Ron Davis radiator). It touches slightly, not enough to worry about right now. It is a 90deg bend that may be changed later to a 45. The tubing is all 2.25" except for the ends which were adapted for the TWM tb and the existing compressor pipe. Thanks to Scott for helping me post the pictures. Much appreciated!!! RPMS
Tim, I didn't realize you were in Fort Worth! If I'd known that, I would have made you promise to give me a ride in your car when you get it done! Is it still too late to make my reservation? Guest Tim78zt
Rides are always welcome, Scott!! Hey, my 16-yr-old son DRIVES it, why shouldn't the guys who helped put it all together get a ride!!!??? How about one more pic? (just for practice!!) I'll let you know when it's ready!! randy 77zt
my 77 needs your set up-i wont remove my a/c.are those welded up exhaust pipe mandrel bends?what is core size?please post in car pictures.
Guest Tim78zt
I wouldn't even think about removing the AC if I lived in Modesto, Randy!! No need to anyway. Just hog out as much of the radiator support on the drivers side as you can, get three 2.25" mandrel J-bends (by getting J's instead of U's you eliminate the need to buy a straight stick of tubing as well) from Summit (they have a choice of two brands...Heddman and Hooker, I think), and your favorite 10" X 20" core. Mine came from Corky Bell, and the adapters for the throttle body and compressor pipe (joint with the BOV already welded on) were included. This IC has individually-welded channels so sizing is a very flexible and custom variable. My air filter(big K&N cone) is clamped to the turbo compressor with a short piece of silicone hose and does not interfere with the AC compressor. Don't worry about getting the air filter out in front of the radiator...inlet air is going to get heated when it's compressed by the turbo anyway. Just let the IC do it's job. Hopefully some more pics are on the way. Tim78zt
Guest Tim78zt
Hey Randy! Here is a shot that should give you a better idea of the dimension. ...and a couple of progress shots! I'll try for one more straight-on shot today and maybe post it later. Tim78zt
spotfitz
Looking real good. I now know where I need to go when I get this '78 I've been looking at buying. I guess RPMS and I will have to make an outing and flip a coin for who gets the first ride. Ok, you asked first Scott. BTW Scott, When am I going to see your new paint job. Mines almost ready for you to paint it.
Guest Tim78zt
It fit like a stock piece! I used a 4.5" angle grinder and a sawzall to cut most of this out. I'm still waiting on clamps to fit everything together. Tim78zt

Guest Tim78zt
Hey Randy! Here is the final install pic! hope it gives you a few ideas for other options! Enjoy!! I know I am!! BTW, this setup is running so lean now that I cannot boost it until we get some more fuel through the DFI and a boost controller (see reply in thread near top) this weekend. Wish me luck!!
