Guest Tom Scala
Finally got around to installing my IC,just in time for winter, and noticed the engine is running slightly leaner than before. The SDS mixture meter used to have all the lights lit under boost without the IC. Now it has all but the last one lit. Still safe I assume but is this normal? I only drove it once and kept boost to 9 psi for now and noticed significant air temp drop. On a 3rd gear blast I would see AT's of around 60 C on a 27 C day. But now AT is about 3 C over ambient(18 C on a 15 C day). This is with the air cleaner on top of the AC compressor in the engine compartment. The IC is a smallish Spearco 192 core,3.5x9.5x12.4 core, rated at 630 cfm with 2.5" in & out connectors. I used 2.25" mandrel pipe in & 2.5" out of the IC. I noticed no appreciable pressure drop from the stock j-pipe at these low boost levels on my gauge but do seem to have a bit more lag now. More boost & more tuning to come. This is the fun part
BLKMGK
Yup, 100% normal and free HP The air is now both cooler and denser which means more power. That's the whole point of an intercooler. Just you wait till it gets real cool out, it just gets better!
Scottie-GNZ
Tom, dance a jig . You are ready to start enjoying the wonders of higher boost. With an I/C like that, the difference between 9# and 15# is staggering. If you are hitting the 2nd to last rich bar you should be just fine. I believe you are using maps I sent you and if you are, it should have increase fuel for higher boost, but when you start turning it up, do it in small increments, like 2# at a time. Keep an eye on the duty cycle and enjoy.
