GrayZee
So what's the deal with this injecting propane into a turbo-diesel engine? and more importantly would it have any use in a turbo-gas engine?
Kennysgreen280zt
I have read that for the diesel guys ,propane is like NO2 is for us gassers. I read an article in ford power , they put it on a truck and got something like 600 lbs torque after the propane/intake/exhaust/chip combo. the truck (full size crewcab 4x4) ran a 15.8 in the quater
Guest Drewz
Condensed liquid propane is sub -85 degrees to become liquid. It runs very cool and has been used to be sprayed over intercoolers, I dont like the idea since it is flammable at certain proportion to O2. It is the violent expansion rate that people hear about but gasoline is far more volatile in most situations. My former boss at Sali Auto had and still has the fastest propane powered car to date. Propane loves compression ratios, higher the better. Instead of running dual injecters I would like to see a propane mixer bolted to the throttle body to add the desired extra fuel. Propane is also over 115 octane if memory serves me right. It has a lot of poss. IMO but few try. Propane is dangerous when it is at a mixture of 20 to 30% with O2. And it is heavier than air so if a leak develops it searches out low ground to gather into a bomb waiting to happen. I did propane conversions for a year and a half and had no problems but I was trained and untrained people get hurt and have died so care should always be taken. The expansion rate is 1 liquid litre into becomes 120+ vapor litres in under a second, roughly. It is food for thought???
