Guest Anonymous
Hello to all- I own a 1988 300zx.I have replaced the engine once already(same engine),it cost me $1,560.00.I am wondering as to what kind of V8 is best. What size V8 would fit in my car;would a big block fit into it or would a small block be better?Would I be able to keep it a 5 speed manual or would I have to convert to an automatic(I dont like automatics)?I would still use it as a daily driver but I am interested in street racing.A good friend (an acura driver)of mine gave me the idea to make my Z into a hybrid because it is extremely hard and expensive to find modifications for my year Z.He also told me it would be one hell of a sleeper(I get challenged all the time just because I drive a Z;mostly by honda drivers).Would that be the case?I live in MA.There are places to street race in Boston as well as in Providence,RI.How well would a hybrid Z go against imports that are not hybrids? What modifications would I have to make to suspention, exaust, body modifications,tires,ect...? DavyZ
Cliff, welcome to the forum! Please understand that there is precious little information on converting a 300ZX to V8 power. That said, it can be done, but you may be paving the way for yourself and others. If you are mechanically inclined, can fab a bit, and have resouces ($$$$), this is not a bad way to go. Check with your state's smog laws before proceeding, please. If it will fit, an LT1 engine and transmission from a Camaro would be the hot ticket. Your car is EFI and so is the engine. Best thing to do would be to buy the TPI/TBI engine swap guide from JTR and meybe even the V8Z conversion manual (for a timeline and plan). Good luck.
