Mike kZ
There was a pic on the web of a yellow 240Z with a 354 early hemi in it.
Guest Anonymous
hmmmmm, we have a 354 and a 392 in the garage... and a 426, but that is a bit bigger No, I just have to remember that I am going to pick up my engine on sat. I know, it's a bowtie... but I'll never recover from the bite of the mopar bug, I just figured the chevs are such an easy conv. Maybe a SBM next time? or even a hemi?? who knows Kris
Mike kZ
Kris, What are you going to do with the 392? I'm planing to build a '33 Willys and would love one of those!
Guest Anonymous
In Summit Racing's latest catalog theres a 360 crate motor with 380hp and 410 ft/lbs for a tad over 3500 complete! That should move a Z along pretty good. A hemi would require some surgery I think to get it in the Z. Minimaly in the firewall area at least. Its also one heavy somebeech. It filled the dart, charger/challenger, Demon/? from wall to wall although the 426 was wider too, be good for the surprise aspect when the hood was popped though. Guest Anonymous
Mike, LoL! Sorry, I must have totally missed your post! it's a little late to reply, but hey, better late than never right? Unfortunately the engine isn't mine, it's my fathers, and it's going somewhere, someday. Maybe that's the one for the cuda.... Yeah, that's it I think. also, I found out a while back when I mentioned the HemiZ idea, that the earlier hemis were actually wider than the 426s! I think a Z would need the shock towers go bye bye, and posibly a late model mustang is it?? suspension grafted. some sort of low dual A-arm setup anyway! but I guess that means next project I'll have to go with a 426 instead of a 392, oh, bummer! or, If I was forced to, I could do a 502 crate hemi imagine when you pull up to a mustang that wants to race... whatcha got in there?? oh, a 5-0....*muttered under breath* two.... then you whoop it's arse up and down by 10 car lengths!!! that would be classic! He'd tell all of his friends about the 10 second streetable (semi with that engine) 5-0! oh man I have too many crazy ideas! Ahhh, too many dreams, so little cash! Maybe we could start a band of Z bank robbers, stealing from the rich and giving to the poor (HybridZers of course!) Well, I need sleep to think up some more crazy dreams! Guest Azel
I can't remember where I saw them but I've seen 2 Z's ('71, '72) with Hemi's. Funny thing is, I've also dreamt of Hemi swaps. The first domestic car my family owned was a '78 Dodge Diplomat. It's been a dream of mine to swap in a twin-turbo 502. Convert that car double wishbone's upfront, multilink rear and slap on some DR's and I'd have one helluva street car. Dream...dream...dreams.... Guest Russ240z
Here are some Hemi pics I found on the Ontario Z car club site. http://granite.sentex.net/~burkhart/zcar21.JPG http://granite.sentex.net/~burkhart/zcar24.JPG http://granite.sentex.net/~burkhart/zcar25.JPG
Guest Anonymous
Note the rear mount distributor and the front oil filler tube... That is a OLD smaller hemi and physically ALOT smaller than say a 426 (which is even wider than the 392) or 392. Its a personal opinion of course, but without notching the shock towers and re-configuring the front end altogether, you'd never get a later bigger displacement hemi in one, of that I'm almost sure. I've seen another picture of this same engine bay before, and it is a awesome car, take nothing away, but the power potential of the earlier hemi's like the red ram for example isn't as great as the later models, but in a light Z I'm sure its pretty darn quick still. I've seen a few of these early Hemi's used in street rods as well and they fit nicely in the 32 roadsters for example. Regards, Lone
