ONE IS A MOPAR 440 WITH TRANNY AND ONLY 55000 MILES

THE OTHER A 350 CHEVY 4 BOLT MAIN,CORVETTE ENGINE BLOCK.

WHICH ONE DO I GO FOR??

I SORT OF WANT THE MOPAR 'COS OF ITS UNIQUENESS BUT I'LL NEED TO FIND OUT FIRST FROM SOMEONE WHO HAS DONE THE SWAP SO I'M AWARE OF THE BUGS.

SO PLS GET BACK TO ME,LET ME KNOW.

THANKS

go for the MOPAR. :D 440 cubes would be REALLY fun to play with heh heh. but in all actuallity it just depends on how you want to use your car the big block would be more suited towards scorching staight line performance but would probably be lacking in the handling catagory. where as the 350 would be a very well suited all around application. and we all know how well the chevy 350 is supported in the aftermarket which is a property not to blink at. but then again there is very good support for the mopar big block out there as well. slap on some indy-1 cylinder heads (pricey but considered the best), a sinlge plane intake,a decint set of headers, a gnarly cam, and your lookin at some SERIOUS power levels it is very easy to hit over 600 with these and the right setup and you don't have to go for broke to achieve it. i would have gone big block myself but plan on doing some serious road racing once i'm done so i opted for a 360 instead. if it is going to be a hot strett car that will see some track time i would opt for the big block any day. just my .02

The mounts will have to be fabricated as there is no 'kit' for anything other than a SB Chevy into a Z. Its also a heavy lump of iron and may require some frame rail mods to even get in there, as I recall someone here did a 383 which is dimensionally close if not identical.

On the good side of the 440 swap, it has a superb 1.80:1 rod to stroke ratio, huge 4.36 bore which doesn't shroud the valves and a short 3.75 stroke. I liked working on the one I did for a partner quite a lot. You can change intakes without removing the distributor, the intake gasket includes a galley cover which works great and the pan gasket on the bottom as I recall is flat making it dead easy to change. To get 600 ponies it will probably need a solid roller cam, but it puts out brutal torque for a big block of its size.

To be honest if handling is a concern, I'd use a SB mopar (if your determined to go Mopar), its lighter than the chevy sb, slightly heavier than the ford sb and can make enough power to scare all but the most diehard speed freak. Just an opinion, and yes I have done and own the chevy swap (it was easier and slightly cheaper although with the 6sp tranny I used thats debatable....).

Good luck with your project,

Lone

If I can ever negotiate this SBC swap then I might be able to attempt a Mopar or Ford swap. I frankly do not like GM and always preferred Chrysler products (or even Ford) but who I am I to argue with millions of satisfied users. There are just too many unknowns (problems) in any thing but a Chev swap for me. I do not need anymore problems to slow down my snail pace and miserly budget.
