Guest Tom Simpson
Here is my current setup: 355 with stock flat tops Dart Iron Eagle 72cc with 1.94/1.50 valves sanderson block huggers and lame dual exhaust(tiny) Edelbrock performer intake Holley 650 double pumper MSD 6A mechanical fan comp cams xtreme 274.......487/.490 110 LSA turbo 350 with a shift kit and 2500 stall R200 w/3.54 What is holding me back the most? the intake? I am just looking for little mods that would make a good difference. I know i need to port and match the heads, that will happen in the future, probably go with some 2.02's also Tom
Guest kc6wfs
Hi Tom, Whats your compression with the 72CC heads and the flattop pistons? What cam are you running ?? dur/lift? Thanks. Dave
biohzrd
a better intake would surely help. i'd also consider a better exhaust if yours isn't up to the job. you may even want to go up on your carb size. on desktop dyno with a better intake and exaust it put on 50+ more hp. these two things could be had fairly cheap aswell. Guest kc6wfs
Sorry Tom I see ya mentioned the cam. Whats the comp ratio with the heads you have? I have (stock) flat tops in mine/w 64cc vortec heads and have 9.4:1 ..... The cam seems fine. Whats your 1/4 mile ET's. Thanks Dave
DavyZ
Intake and exhaust. Are the crank and rods stock too? What kind of disty do you have? Judging by the fact that you have stock flat top pistons and large cc heads, your compression ratio must be very low, like in the 8's to 1 kind...If you go with higher compression pistons, then mods to the intake and exhaust will make a difference. Just for kicks, what made you get the smaller valved heads? Davy
Guest Anonymous
I think Davy is right. My Goodwrench motor has 76cc heads and one of the mags that did a series of hop up articles said that the engine has a compression ratio of like 7.8-1. With 72cc heads probably in the 8's as Davy said. I think you'll find if you went to like 64 or 58cc heads with 2.02 1.60 valves then it would uncork the HP like taking a fistfull of Exlax... IMHO engines with longer duration cams want much more compression. The long durations tend to bleed off cyl pressure so you need the compression. The tight lobe center should help low end torque a bit with that cam as well, I'm sure your probably aware of that. Regards, Lone
