Coolant temp switch?

My 76 NA Federal model Z has a coolant temp switch. This is to the right of the temp sender and above the coolant temp sensor. It has a blue wire coming out to a red in the harness and of course a black ground. My FSM only mentions the switch with regards to the EGR and it's controlling solenoid which my car does not have. I'm about to remove the temp sensor and thermotime switch and test. My car is running extremly rich. Fuel fouls plugs with one running. Also, while your here the Victoria British catalog and the local parts store list a air temp sensor which my FSM states is non replaceable in the AFM. I've tested the plug years ago and came up with about 20ohms less than specs. Thanks.
