Guest Anonymous
Well, I would not normally do this but here goes.... I purchased a "plug and play" 84 300zxt ecu and two MAS from a member who frequents this forum who will remain nameless. I have made every effort to communicate with this individual (several unreturned phone calls, detailed e-mails and even a private message from this forum) but am getting little, if any, indication of interest in what I have been sold or how to troubleshoot it. Here are the facts: 1. To be installed on a well running, basically stock 83 280zxt auto. 2. The JECS label on the ecu I was sent is A18-613500. I have determined from the ECCS part numbers complete list on Z31.com that this is a Federal Non-turbo, 5 speed ecu. I did some on board diagnosics according to a shop service manual and find that at the start of the diagnostic sequence, code 24 (300zx turbo) is not displayed. Error codes are: 23 (idle switch), 31 (a/c) and 41(fuel temp sensor). 3. I have correctly bypassed the fuel pump relay to operate the fuel pump with the ignition switch on. 4. I properly installed the former AFM plug upside down as instructed and have grounded the proper MAS pin (I believe the D pin, could use help verifing this) 5. The car will not start. It cranks but no start. 6. It is my understanding that this set up was previously running on a 75zxt with the stock zxt wiring harness. 7. This set up is apparently similar to the JWT conversion. I removed the ECU circuit boards and can find at least 5 jumpered circuits. Questions: 1. Do I need to use a different ignition trigger than the stock chopper wheel in the stock 83zxt dizzy? 2. If this is a federal non-turbo ecu for 5 speed, does it have the proper ignition retard for turbo application? Not likely from what I can gather. 3. Can someone familiar with this JWT-type plug and play set up help me with this (thanks for your help SleeperZ)? Tony240ZT
I've heard that the stock chopper wheel works fine, but the z31 one has a larger gap for TDC. I would think that'd make a difference, but I guess not. You are correct, the NA ignition map is not what you are looking for on your turbo setup. Maybe an aftermarket ignition system can help tune you in, but most of those are pretty pricy. Hope others can help you in diagnosing the problem.
