Guest miloz31
I'm thinking of purchasing the HALTECH E11 or E6K. Has anyone installed this system on there Z or experience with this product. Thanks
Guest Dan0myte
I don't think the E11 is out yet. It will be soon though.
Guest Anonymous
I'm in the process of doing an E6K installation on my L28 turbo 240Z. I bought the following: E6K kit with flying loom (includes Air Temp, Coolant Temp, Throttle position sensors) 3 BAR MAP sensor Complete terminator kit 3 Channel dummy igniter I used the throttle position sensor from a Nissan KA24 engine instead of the one supplied by Haltech. The reason I used it was that I used the throttle body (60mm) from a 240sx, which came with a good working TPS that met Haltech's requirements. I also used the coils from a Buick 3.8L V6 (Accel coil actualy). I gutted the DIS module and only used it as a mounting plate. My E6K will control all the ignition timing and coil saturation times so I used a "dummy" igniter (From Haltech) just to fire the coils. The E6K will allow you to do direct fire (waste spark) or SEMI sequential, but not both on a 6 cylinder. The unit has been out for a while and is well proven. I just completed the wiring and have verified timing and spark. I have mine setup for multipoint (Batch fire) injection with direct fire waste spark. The software is DOS based, but is very easy to use. The cost is around $1000 in the USA. The E11 has many more output channels and supports full sequential injection on a 6 cylinder. It also supports true direct fire without waste spark. The unit is new, as in less then 2 months old, so be aware that there may be some growing pains. The software is Windows based and has many bells and whistles. The cost is around $1500 in the USA Both units have direct support for the optical trigger used on the Nissan ECCS engines. The older L28ET has to have the trigger wheel replaced with one from a 300ZX or VG30 Maxima. Easy to find and easy to replace. I have 3 at the house. Support from Haltech USA is non-existent as the manager is a complete bozo and the tech is too busy! Haltech in Australia has been of great help. They provided me with a startup MAP based on my engine configuration. There is a Haltech support group on Yahoo that is really helping out. Lots of good people with REAL experience. I was told that the support conditions in the USA are going to change in 2003. Use your dealer, if you buy one from a dealer, as your main contact. If you look around, there are many people who can help if you run into trouble. If cost is not a concern, then the E11 is the superior unit, but the E6K is well up to the task of controlling all but the most insane engine combinations. Be prepared to do a lot of head scratching and the wiring can get to be a lot of fun. Go slow and verify each step. Everything should go smooth. The manual on the E6K is acceptable, but the E11 is supposed to be more detailed. I haven't seen the E11 manual, so I can't say for sure. You will never know an engine better after you complete the installation. Good luck and welcome to the world of programmable EFI.
Guest Anonymous
Dan, The Haltech E11 was released 11/11/2002. Many units for sale on eBay for $1500 "Buy it Now" price. Dealers may be charging more.
Guest Zcarsmakemyheadhurt
I have a F3 at the shop and I have used F9 and E6K but have not heard anything good about the E11. I think problems are coming up with them I would hold up on buying one.
Guest miloz31
Yeah, I probably go with the E11. I will be installing the system on my 1987 Z31 Turbo and hopefully it will work with the stock Nissan crank angle sensor to trigger the ignition. I'm still debating if I should go with a direct fire ignition system or just use the stock Nissan distributor with a MSD 6a box. $1500.00 is allot of money but, considering TEC3 cost allot more and then SDS EM4F is around $1300.00 so, I think it still would be worth it. Thanks for the info.
Guest Zcarsmakemyheadhurt
Miloz, I have a system that will work with the factoy crank sensor and you could go DIS or factory type set up, it will even work your factory coolant and air temp sensors. Give me a call I'll tell you all about it. Alex Costa Precison Machined Engines 1-800-665-0405
