Guest Anonymous
Ok guys, maybe you can help me with a problem I'm having. I just bought a '78 280Z a month ago and one of the problems with the car is it is missing the plastic steering column that holds the internals of the steering wheel in place(ie the ignition, which sorta kinda just dangles there) I'm looking to restore this car with a velo rossa spyder kit and a decidedly vintage ferrari style interior...My question is that I know you can by the stock steering column piece from motorsport or even if I'm lucky to make a pull from a donor car, but is there any place you guys know of that sells that particular piece with a vintage ferrari look to it? I need that ferrari vintage dash too so any info you could supply would be helpful..thanks!
Guest Anonymous
The steering column surronds show up on e Bay. There was a Stable Autoworks GTO dash that showed up on eBay about a month ago. IT had 0 bids on an opening bid of $200.This dash may go for $400.00 from Stable works (?) The only other place would be Thunder Ranch. The seller is from Bellwood Illinois. You may look the seller up off eBay and send him an eMail. EBay item # 1871037784 and make an offer.Even though ,you get the GTO dash ,you will probably need the surround too. boatbum
Oz, I am using the Simpson Style GTO dash in my VR kit and my car was missing the covers for the switchs and the key area. I got the dash before they closed but you might check with John Washington about getting a dash - he may know of a customer who isn't using one. Last I heard he had a few leads on dashes for around $300. The layout for my GTO dash has the steering column going through the instrument opening and I will only have the turn signal lever on the column. I am taking off the other switch that controls the lights and wipers and will have toggle switches on the dash instead with the ignition key switch from a boat and a push button on the dash for the starter. Depending on how it shows I might fabricate something to cover the turn signal mounting. Hope this helps. If you have any questions on mounting the kit - let me know - I have finished the mounting (except the hood) and it went really smooth. Now I have a ton of sanding and filling. SpeedRacer
I'm pretty sure that Jeff over at Stable Autoworks http://www.zcarkits.com/ has both the Alpha 1 and Simpson GTO dashboards available. I have the Alpha 1 type in my car http://www.hybridz.org/Review/0002/GTO_31.jpg Jeff gets around $300-$350 for them I think. BTW, the plastic steering column surround doesn't hold anything together. Everything is mounted solid to the steering column. Also, I do not use the "stalk" on my car either. I changed to switches mounted on the console and just glued a black plastic body plug in the hole it left in the surround. I do however, still use the original ignition switch since it locks the steering on the car.
