Guest zfan
Just received my mirrors from Msa today, they are the chrome bullet type. I'm installing them on my 71 Z. I currently have the crappy one mirror drivers side original on the car. Has anyone bought those bullet type mirrors? If so what did you think of them? I have not pulled the inner door panels yet(will do tomorrow) did you have to pull inner door apart to get to the old mirror mounts/bracket? Also the screws they provide do not seem adequate. Well if anyone has been down this road and has any hints or beware of's I would appreciate the imput. I just installed the rear strut brace and will put in driving lights tonight. Thanks, Mike
Guest Anonymous
You right about the mounting screws. Looks like the mirror will fall off the first time the door is slamed. I got a 3 or 3.5 inch stainless screw the same thread size as the screw that goes from the base to the mirror body. Ran that screw throught the door (interior panel removed) thru the base and into the mirror body. Made a backing plate that goes between the new screw head and the door so the screw won't pull thru that thin datsun sheet metal. Backing plate was contoured to match the contour of the door in that area. I used the supplied sheet metal screws to finish off the base. Not really much support from these screws. Can't believe MSA thinks they would be adequate for a car that was actually driven.
Guest zfan
Mark, Thanks for the tips/pointers. I really like the mirrors alot but what a pain in the butt to get the stock one off my 71Z. My son used his smaller hands to get to the nut in the door with an angle wrench. I just new that kid was good for something! Now I know!
