Guest Anonymous
Hey, another new guy here, just would like to say what a great site this is for researching anything z-related. Just wondering about costs of a V8 conversion with some sort of SBC and a T56 or T5, is 6 grand feasible incluiding the car itself? the price would have to include pretty much everything (ill hopfully try to aviod the "while im at it..." syndrome) , and my funds are limited so i would need to find the lowest price option if i end up choosing to do a V8 swap. any ideas on reasonable prices would be great. Thanks John
Guest Look A Z
I would probably say, it is best to buy a Z that is already converted that would put you ahead of tons of people already. As for the costs, the search button would give you most of the answers you need and it all depends on how fast you want to go. Fast=money. Guest thepenguin99
Yes you can do a v8 conversion for 6k w/car but it will be a low budget conversion. I know for my conversion I am spending $2200 on the car its self. This includes a 72 240z in nice cosmetic condition and shipping from AZ to TN. The motor/trans I am using will run me ~$2000 also (LT1 w/t56). Thats $4200 and I am still looking at a radiator, custom driveshaft, eletronic speedo, a different rearend, fuel pump, custom exhaust, motor mounts and other small stuff. SMALL STUFF ADDS UP! I estimate I am looking at ~8k and thats with no motor / trans / suspension / brake mods.
peej410
well.... 72 240z - $2000 350 rebuilt 500 t-5 100 pressure plate 75 flywheel 60 clutch disk 80 mig welder 1100 hehehe its too early to do math but ... thats what ive got so far, i still need things like a distributor pulleys belts and a driveshaft, im making my own motor mounts to mount to my cusom framerails. it can definately be done very inexpensively however the cheaper you go the more questionable the quality of the parts will be. ive never seen my motor run. it turns over fine but it came out of a really smashed car. my t-5 has a broken mounting tab that i will weld at work. the flywheel is used and needs to be resurfaced. good luck to you though i rode in a sbc Z for the first time a month ago... it was one helluva ride - pete
