TomoHawk
Just wondering if it's legal to replace the speedo (with a new/restored one) because you wouldn't be able to see the mileage on the car. You're supposed to record the mileage on the certificate when you buy/sell, so if you replace the speedo, what do or can you do?
Guest Aaron
You can replace them, but you have to state that the odometer has been replaced and the actual mileage is unknown when you sell the car. You can also keep a record of the mileage when the odo was replaced so you can state actual mileage when you sell the car.
Guest Enraged
in some areas for an older car with a new engine, replaced speedo etc, you can register it as "mileage exempt". call your local insurance company and ask, thats really the only way to find out for sure. jeromio
I know in NC, when the car is over a certain age (ten years?) or 100K miles - the mileae statement in the title transfer is no longer required.
