Guest Anonymous
has anyone done this yet? we're thinking on doing a full brake system swap from the skyline to our skyline powered 240. For a car running an rb engine already, it owuld be cool to transfer the entire breaking system to a Z. We have all the necessary skyline parts to do it, just curious. Guest zline
you'd need to fabricate a bracket to connect the caliper to the hub assembly then convert the wheel mounting plate from the skyline circular to the 240Z scalloped style. Why would you want to do this? there are brake kits out there that stop better and take less work, if you want i'll PM you my # and i can help you guys out with your Z project - addition - you'd need coilovers so the brakes would clear the struts, as well as a wheel that can accomidate both coilovers and the larger brakes, not to mention lines and use the ZX master cyl to keep correct pedal function. or just use the wilwood in cockpit adjustable proportioning valve. Guest zline
ABS...on a track car? why....they you dont have control over braking force. you need to setup something for the abs lines then...you'd need the flanges and brake hoses for it as well as the abs sensor

Im just inexperienced with Z cars, so I'm not aware of how hard it would be to equip one with the physical parts.

Guest 260zman
I'm just in the process myself of putting skyline brakes into a 260z. Except the parts i've put in are not the ABS model ones. I'm using R32 4 pot callipers mounted onto R31 struts (bolt on). I've changed the struts to adjustable platforms so i can use coilover springs. The later model skyline had an 'A' arm style front suspension so the r31 is the go. Goodluck
Guest Anonymous
Are there any sort of brake kits offered for the 280 ZX's? I have never come across any, but am certainly in the market - really the only thing my car lacks right now (although it brakes extremely well) Adam
Guest d3c0y z3d
Hey 260zman: You got any photos of that setup ??
Guest 260zman
hey d3c0y z3d. I haven't got any pics of my brake setup yet. but i'll try to sort something out for ya. You 've got to get the right model r31 skyline front struts, as some measure approx 90 mm centres of calliper mount holes, and the ones needed to bolt on the 4 pot callipers are 100 mm. the skyline i got mine from was a jap r31 turbo (rb20det, i also got the engine for my 260z!!!) called a "passage gt". All you need to do to fit the callipers is trim away a little of the tin shield that surrounds the disc. Have fun 260zman
Guest sooley
I have done this conversion. I am using R33 GTS-T Discs and rotors and I have the brackets for the conversion. They bolt onto the factory strut position but you will have to use a 17" Wheel to fit them. You can use they factory R33 GTS-T Discs but you will need to redrill them and get the hat machined. Any local machine shop could do this. I have the Diagram of how to do it. Let me know if your interested $350 Aust Dollars

Goodluck Um, sorry to burst your bubble, but using a R31 strut assembly on a Z is...well..not possible/really really hard. here's why the bolt spacing on the steering arms is not compatible at all! so unless you found a way to use R31 steering arms...which doesnt work because they dont bolt to the box etc., etc., Although it is NOT impossible to use R32 calipers on a Z you just cant use R31 struts I thought i'd just make that clear. You can use the R31 strut/R32 caliper combo on a 510 however...if you want it for this application shoot a pm to me. they're bout 600 aud a pair.
