Guest ebay240z
Here's the deal....I stripped the paint on the passenger side rear quarter (and patched rust holes) using paint stripper and have sandblasted the inside of the rear quarter (including alot of surface rust inside the area around the hatch opening). Anyways I found out that I am going to have to do a frame replacement (new front frame rails and subframe connectors). This will probably take me several months due to time problems. Meanwhile my rear quarter panel is down to the bare metal. The car is garaged but I know it will start to rust again if I leave it bare. I do not want to spend much money on paint materials until (or if) I sucessfully replace the frame rails. Can I leave the quarter panel in primer for several months without problems?? And if so, what type of primer should I use. I have self-etching primer to spray on the bare metal, but I know it will not seal out moisture. I plan on trying to paint the car myself, so the simpler product the better. If someone has recommendations on how I can preserve that rear quarter until I get around to it, I would appreciate it. 280Zone
Dupont sells a primer by the name of DP90, it comes in etching formula for bare metal. It is also a sealer so it is safe to leave exposed.
