Guest Tom Scala
I put a ACT clutch in my turboed 78 a little over a year ago and have had nothing but great luck with it untill about a week ago. First the slave cylinder went,I replaced it and all was well. A few days later the master quit, replaced it and all was well. A few days later driving home through moderate stop & go city traffic I notice the clutch is catching closer to the floor and freeplay is increasing. At the last stop sign before my house I push the pedal in and I hear a high pitched squeel and the engine stalls. I fire it up, push the pedal and get the squeel and dying engine again. I gun it and get rolling, making it to my garage. The squeel was gone when the pedal was up but in the garage a pushed the pedal down a little and got the squeel and engine drag. I havent had a chance to take it apart yat but am expecting a fried pilot bushing (the squeel) but what would cause the engine to stall when the pedal is down? Could a siezed pilot bushing create enough drag to kill it? I just hope the clutch itself isn't damaged.
Trevor
Possibly the throwout bearing.
VRJoe
It sounds like the Throwout bearing is shot, but the fact the both cylinders went bad also make me wonder if the pressure plate is a problem. I'm afraid the only answer is to pull the trans and check the parts. - Joe
