Guest chuck91na
my friend just picked up a '76 280 that isnt running. we were told it only needed a new AFM to run. as we tried to start it, it was back firing, so we checked the timing. at TDC when #1 should be firing, the rotor is pointed to thje #5 cylinder. we then got ghetto and just switched the wires so they are now firing at the top of the compression stroke as they should be for each cylinder. one cylinder now pops, but thats it. we tried aligning the distributor so that it would be firing when it should be, in the correct order but the thing is keyed at the bottom. we are puzzled as to how the order has become so messed up. the dist has been changed...there was RTV gasket stuff there instead of a real gasket. so, is there a way to rotatate the key at the bottom of the dist? punch out the roll pin and rotate it? we are also unsure about how the current order will change the FI....does it all need to be in synch? and another long shot....is there a way to test an AFM? the shop manual says very little about it. thanks for any help, chuck
