Guest Anonymous
o.k. so im going with the 400 bored 30 over 5.7 rods and pistons for the application. i dont know if these stock 882 heads 76 cc will work at all for now? i want to build this bottom right so i want compression in the 10 to 10.5 range the cam i have now is energizer 274/ 300/450 # 100172 and a stealth manifold. the heads and manifold came with my engine i have a tci powerglide 1.76 im not sure were the weak spots are in this combo im aiming on 2200 to 5500 rpm range!!!! Guest Anonymous
To achieve that kind of compression you would have to get TRW flatop 4 valve reliefs specifying "10.5 compression on a 76cc head". Another thing to look for is that the 882 heads have steam holes already drilled for the block. 400 blocks have steam holes in between the bores and the head has to have the same holes, if not you are going to have cooling problems. Also the stock rod size of a 400 is 5.56 I believe. Regardless, you cannot go wrong with a 400! or a 377 whichever way its all good!
v8dats
i used to work for a machine shop and found out that those castings are prone to cracking. get these heads checked for cracks first.
Guest Anonymous
thanx for the info, my heads are 882 with the steam holes already there! which is nice, ill take the advice and have them checked for cracks, the piston rod combo is a rebuild kit i found, i am looking for a 5.7 rod(which shouldnt be a problem) and the pistons are trw 10.5 pistons designed for the 5.7 rod, the bottom end is already in the purchasing stage, but i dont know if the 1.94 76cc heads and a stealth intake will flow enough for the 10.5 to 1 comp. i also cant find any info on the powerbant on the 5.7 rod 10.1 400 combo so i wonder if this is the right cam even though its really 2200 to 5200 (typo in 1st message)
