ToplessZ
Anyone that has done a zx conversion how long was your speedometer cable. Thanks
Guest Anonymous
The speedometer should be 70 inches long for early Z speedometer conversion to a 700R4 GM transmission. What type of transmission is the speedometer cable ends geared for since they are all about different for each tranny application. The proper speedometer cable alone might run you $50.00 new. Someone on here posted a slick looking throttle cable setup made from bicycle parts that I will duplicate.
Guest greimann
I don't know how long it is, (speedo cable that is) but the GM part number is 25033662, and cost $49.51 (back in '94). For the throttle cable I used a Lokar unit from Summit.
Guest Anonymous
What models does the GM speedometer fit since it probably costs a lot more at GM now and cheap at the Junkyards today
Guest greimann
That cable fits a T5 from a Camaro. '92 to ~'85 I think.
ToplessZ
I will be running a 700r4 tranny. Do you think I can maybe get a new end put on the cable at a speed shop cheaply if its the right length. Im getting the speedo cable and the throttle linkage and cable all for 26.00 shipped new in packages. I figure if it doesnt fit ill post it on here and ebay or something. TomahawkZ I sure would like to see that throttle linkage that was homade if you can find a link or pictures. Thanks a ton for your help guys
Guest Anonymous
Just do a search on throttle linkange on this site. Read the JTR Manual to get a handle on doing your own speedometer gearing. You can buy all the parts direct without the middle man at the speedometer shop. I have a special folder that I keep all the websites of members and there ia a lot of them and someher in there is the bicycle linkage. Tonight, Tim 240 Z re posted his outstanding fabricated trans mount that I will copy. He reports that it also will take a 6 speed mounting perfectly.I wrote down Greimans part number and camaro years for future reference on the 2004R conversion speedometer conversion. I should find on in a junkyard chesp
