it's hard to say because there are a number of variables.

*year

*body condition

*eng installed

I am about to pick up my first Z, a 1970 240Z with an 81 280 eng in it, new paint and pretty clean body for $3000 (US) or less

Not sure what that is in Canadian currency tho, sorry

Vandread, be very careful of any 240Z that hasn't lived its entire life in, say, Arizona or New Mexico, because if it hasn't it has rust. Simple as that. The cars were notorious for rust, and virtually everyone who's done work on them has found at least some. Look it over very carefully, especially in the engine compartment under the battery, the floor pans, and anyplace else exposed to road salt or constant moisture.

Z's in Alberta are going for between $1500 and $13,000 depending on condition, customization etc.

Also, don't let our realtively dry weather fool you. 1: the car may not have been here its whole life and 2: the salt on the roads in winter wreaks havoc on undercarriages/frames etc. Don't assume the car was only summer driven. My Z looked perfect when I bought it, but the entire floorpan had to be replaced.

Hope that helps.

Just found this for sale: 78 280z w/ 350 sbc in Edmonton:

DO yourself a favour and find the most rust free car you can. If this looks bad on the floors, framerails, strut towers, etc. Skip it. You'll be further ahead than thinking "I'm a good fabricator, I'll just weld in new panels." Many here have gone that route and realized after the fact that the time spent making it look good isn't worth what little more $$$ they could have spent to find a rust free car.

It really depends on your market and the condition. If its pristine, rust free, and just suffers from things like fading paint, bad tires, maybe needs some springs or shocks or something, then yeah, 8k maybe. But if it needs anything more major I'd keep hunting.

I found a 98% rust free car on this board in sask. for less than $1500 canadian. It has a few dings and dents, but whatever!
