Guest Anonymous
I read all this stuff about the JTR manual and kit. I have a 81 ZX and would like to throw a 383 in it. Would this JTR manual work for my car? Will it give me enough information or will I do a lot of problem solving? Are these JTR kits just for Z's? Did anyone take any pictures during their swaps? Dan Juday
The jtr kit is for the 1st gen Z's, '70-'78. The kit will do you no good. The book, however, will give you lots of valuable info. Well worth the price and should be your first purchace. At least 2 or 3 guys here have done the ZX swap. I'm sure they will pipe up with some help. Keep in mind that you will need an engine of the same year or newer and it will have to be smog legal if this is going to be a street car. The price of living in The Golden State. Guest greimann
Greimann here piping up! ZX's are definitely hot this week I never got the JTR manual so I can't comment on that, but if you are building a street car, then smog cert is going to be your guiding factor. '79 was the last year that Chevrolet offered a purely carbureted motor. That is how I have certified my car. After that, they had weird electronic feedback carbs and crossfire (aka misfire) fuel injection stuff that I would stay far away from. Fast forward to '85 and up where truly usable TBI or TPI came into play. The reason for this droning is because the first thing you have to do is select the year of Chevrolet car you want to pattern your installation after to be smog certifiable. When you are ready, ask more specific questions and we are here for you.
